Explore the history beneath the surface.

Shipwrecks are some of the most fascinating places a diver can visit. Each one is a window into history and a thriving artificial reef full of marine life. The PADI Wreck Diver course teaches you to explore these sites safely and responsibly, whether it's a ship sunk on purpose as an artificial reef or a vessel lost to the sea.

What You'll Learn

  • How to research a wreck's history before you dive it
  • How to recognize and avoid wreck hazards such as sharp metal, entanglement, silt-outs, and unstable structures
  • Wreck mapping and survey techniques to plan and navigate your dive
  • How to use a penetration line and reel
  • Limited penetration within the light zone, where natural light is still visible
  • How to protect wrecks and respect the laws and ethics around artifacts

Course Structure
Learn the knowledge portion through PADI eLearning at your own pace.

To earn your certification, you'll need to complete four open water wreck dives. Once you've signed up, we'll reach out to schedule your dives at a time that works for you. Please note that the open water dives are invoiced separately from the course.

Prerequisites

  • PADI Adventure Diver certification (or higher) or equivalent from another agency
  • Minimum age 15

Bonus Credit
The first dive of the course can count as an Adventure Dive toward your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. The Wreck Diver specialty also counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.
