PADI Rescue Diver

Become the buddy everyone wants to dive with.

Many divers call Rescue Diver the most challenging course they've taken, and also their favorite. You'll shift your focus from yourself to the divers around you. You'll learn to spot small problems before they turn into big ones and to respond calmly and confidently if something goes wrong. It's serious training, and it's also a lot of fun.

What you'll learn

  • Self-rescue: Recognize and handle your own stress and problems underwater.
  • Preventing problems: Read the signs of a diver in trouble and step in early.
  • Handling equipment issues: Fix minor gear problems before they end a dive.
  • Emergency response: Help panicked and unresponsive divers, manage emergency scenarios, and use an emergency oxygen kit.

How it works
Start with PADI eLearning at your own pace (about 8–12 hours). Then join a YAY Scuba instructor to practice rescue exercises in the pool and put it all together in open water rescue scenarios.

Prerequisites

  • PADI Adventure Diver with the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive, or Advanced Open Water Diver (or a qualifying certification from another agency)
  • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and first aid) training within the past 24 months
  • Minimum age 12 (divers ages 12–14 earn the Junior Rescue Diver certification)

Need your CPR and first aid? YAY Scuba teaches Emergency First Response in-house, so you can take care of that prerequisite with us before or alongside your Rescue course.
